Privacy Policy
Last updated: [date of launch]
The Pool Hall is built to need as little about you as possible: no account, no email, no phone number. This policy explains the little we do collect. "We" means [Company legal name].
What we collect
- What you type into a pool: the first name you join with, your picks, answers and squares, and chat messages. Members of that pool can see these.
- Pool details: the pool's name, rules and settings, and the description a commissioner types into the AI builder.
- A device key: when you join, your browser stores a random key that signs you in to that pool. We keep only a scrambled (hashed) copy of it.
- Network information: your IP address is used to limit abuse (for example, how many pools can be created from one place in a day). We store only a scrambled (hashed) form of it next to a counter, never the address itself.
- Daily totals: we count things like pools created, players joined and players picking each day. These are plain totals with no names, devices or addresses attached.
- Payments: if a commissioner buys a Pool Pass, Stripe processes the payment. We receive a record that the payment succeeded, the amount and the pool it was for, not full card details.
We don't use advertising trackers, and we don't sell or rent personal information.
How we use it
To run pools (save picks, lock them, keep score, show standings and chat), to prevent abuse, to process Pool Pass payments, and to fix problems.
Who we share it with
- Other members of your pool, who see your name, picks (once they lock) and messages.
- Service providers that run the Service for us: Netlify (hosting), Google Firebase (database), Stripe (payments) and Anthropic (the AI builder, which receives only the pool description a commissioner types).
- Authorities, if the law requires it.
Browser storage
We use your browser's local storage, not tracking cookies, to remember which pools you've joined (their names and keys) and the name and emoji you last used. Clearing your browser data signs you out of your pools; the commissioner can send you a new link. The "Switching phones?" link carries those pool keys to your new phone inside the link itself; it is never sent to us.
How long we keep it
Pool data is kept while the pool exists. A commissioner can ask us to delete a pool, and any player can ask us to delete their data, at support@thepoolhall.app. [Retention period to be set before launch.]
Children
The Pool Hall is for people 18 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has used the Service, contact us and we'll delete it.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at support@thepoolhall.app. Depending on where you live (for example California), you may have additional rights; we'll honor them as the law requires.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll post a notice in the Service.
